Audrey Hausman – Belgium

I will leave Askari in less than 36 hours and my heart is really heavy and sad. I’ve been here for three months and I have the impression that I arrived only two days ago. Every day at Askari was just magical and amazing. Before coming, you think you will have a nice experience but never can you imagine what you are going to experience. Askari is more than a volunteering project, it’s a way of living, of learning, of understanding. Your heart will beat every day, every hour, not only because you will see wild animals but also because you will meet amazing and passionate people. You will get involved in wildlife protection, you will learn so many things each day and it will make you appreciate every single animal (even the spiders), plants and trees. I’m sure that being a volunteer and just living in the bush and being taught about wilderness is an amazing experience, but I’m positive that the way it’s done at Askari and especially the people that will teach you makes all the difference. Thanks to them I feel like a member of another family (the Askari family). There are no words strong enough to express how grateful I am. Thank you again for all you have done for me and wildlife conservation.
