Testimonials

It’s difficult to summarise Askari but I will try. Breath taking views, hands on conservation, assisting vet, security and longevity of fences, alien plant control, protection of trees, manual labour, gathering research information along with many animal and bird sightings, and not forgetting the beautiful sunsets. The team are very focused, approachable, hard-working and informative. Their enthusiasm is infectious. This has been my first trip to Africa and I definitely chose the best volunteer group. Throughout my time at Askari I met a few volunteers from other projects and Askari still stands out as they put a lot of effort in to educate volunteers and involve them in as much as possible. Even with fun and relaxing activities you’re still...

I don’t know how to start. This experience was one of the best in my life. If I could give an advice it would be to stay more than one month. There are too many activities we would like to do twice (bush walk…tracking…) and we don’t have time in one month. Future volunteers: if you decide to come to Askari you will find an amazing staff full of knowledge, passionated by the bush, who first want to share good moments. You will learn so many things about wildlife, nature, conservation. You will see a lot of different animals and above all you will feel useful. Be prepared to live and incredible and unforgettable experience. Robbie, Katie, as I told...

I hardly know where to start but Askari isn’t a basic volunteer project. It’s my second time in Askari and I’m always glad to be involved in this amazing experience. It’s not just a basic eco-volunteer, it’s much more than that, real work for conservation and you can see the challenge of African reserves. How they manage it and the importance of preservation of different animals, birds, trees, insects. It isn’t only Big 5 conservation because the most insignificant thing may have consequences on the nature. My time at Askari was indescribable, amazing, a dream. This experience gave me a lot of knowledge and a family. Robbie and Katie are incredible managers in this reserve and I had a lot...

My 2nd trip to Askari and each time I’m blown away – love what they do here and how they do it. You learn so much and the staff are fun and informative. Great to have an opportunity to be involved and contribute in some small way. My happy place.  ...

I absolutely loved my time at Askari. Not only did we see amazing animals and sights but we learnt so much! Katie and Robbie are so passionate about what they do and it’s contagious. We had a lot of variety in our projects and Katie and Robbie went the extra mile to make sure we saw every animal. Would recommend to anybody who’s interested in taking part in continuing Askari’s conservation goals and learn a truck load along the way.  ...

I loved my time at Askari, and love is a small word for this case! I spent 2 months here, so I think during my time we covered all the activities and they were amazing. Katie & Robbie are wonderful, they have lots of things to teach everybody and they are really passionate about what they do. I really recommend the Askari project. It’s such an amazing experience. I don’t regret the time I spent here and I want to come again as soon as possible....

I expected to roll up the sleeves, work hard at any project and probably learn a fair bit along the way. What was gained far exceeded my expectations. After an emotional farewell I realised the this journey did not only open my eyes further to conservation but I also gained an immense appreciation of purpose. The conservation blood line within this team runs very strong through ownership to management and into the volunteers. We were fortunate to meet the owners who support this mission which confirmed an intelligent vision and commitment to simply do the right thing for the land & all those on it so the future children can enjoy. Their passion is emphasised by this team who patiently share...

I didn’t really know what to expect when I booked my trip to Askari, but after 2 days in the reserve I knew I made the right choice. Pidwa is amazing in so many points and particularly for its principles conserving wildlife. It comforted me in my desires to seek further in nature conservation and environmental protection. It made me discover a whole new world where I found purpose to my actions. More over, the staff is incredible. Always open minded, amazingly knowledgeable, really good teachers, funny….I can’t thank Askari enough for this wonderful project and I truly hope to come back soon....

I came for the first time to Africa. It was a dream…thanks to Askari Wilderness programme, it became a passion. All the activities I participated in were filled with knowledge, I learnt a lot here and I will continue to work for programmes like Askari. Katie and Robbie are amazing, kind, patient and passionate. It was a pleasure to discover Africa and this programme with them....

Staying at Askari was a fantastic adventure… Unlike travel or safaris, we are here to help, to learn and to make a difference for the south African wildlife and environment… while having as much fun as we would during a travel/ safari…! Askari purposes are noble and ethical, and the staff make us feel like we are a part of this big project… Every day is a new adventure, you never know what wild animals you’re gonna encounter on the road, but you can see a big part of the south Africa wildlife! The staff is very nice, involved and passionate and transform a lot of activities into fun games and little contests… Thank you so much Katie and Robbie (and...
