Testimonials

This was my third time at Askari, and by the way I have already checked the availability for next year; I can tell it won’t be the last. My first two stays here were so incredible and full of animal’s sightings, that I truly believed I had seen it all, but the unlimited passion of the staff and their willingness to make you get the best out of your stay proved me wrong. I am leaving this place heartbroken but a little bit wiser, more connected to nature and infinitely grateful....

This was my third time volunteering at Askari, and each time was special and unique. Each visit increases my knowledge and understanding of wildlife and conservation,  and has certainly impacted on how I view the world. The programme is based on ethical practices where the animals’ best interests are first and foremost. It was important to realise that the data collected at Askari is shared and becomes a part of national data - you know you are part of something bigger.  The staff are professional, knowledgeable and personable, and create a team that works together. The programme was fun and balanced and is definitely a life changer. I highly recommend it. Don’t hesitate!...

I've always wanted to go to Africa, I had high hopes. All those hopes and dreams came true at Askari. During 4 weeks we were in incredible touch with nature, animals and wildlife. The group of volunteers was super motivated to learn about everything. Katie is such an experienced and talented guide, you have so much fun learning from her. I enjoyed my stay so much, wanting to come back here. The weekends were so nice too, you can do your activities, where Katie helps you organise it. Everything is simple. 1 month at Askari was the best choice, I will miss it...

This was my second stay at Askari; it was as good if not better than the first. The introduction to the programme is seamless from the time of booking, arriving at the airport to entering the gate of home away from home. The staff is friendly, welcoming, helpful at all times. Everything is accounted for including comfort, food, activities. The rooms are comfortable, clean as in the rest of the house. The programme is fantastic as it includes mounds of education lots of fun activities and provide hands on work which in itself, teaches one about conservation. I highly recommend the programme at Askari to anyone who is passionate about wildlife and conservation...

I would not trade my time at Askari for anything, truly a once in a lifetime experience. A perfect balance of education, work, and exploring. The staff were all so knowledgeable and seemed to know everything about anything bush related. Such a great experience....

I was with Askari for eight weeks. While participating in all the programmes activities, I was also able (and helped) to collect samples for my MSc thesis. Overall the time with Askari was the best time of my life. I enjoyed every single moment of it. From the encounters with all the majestic animals in the reserve, to digging the waterholes, controlling alien plants, bush walking and the braais! The team is unbelievably talented and caring, sharing their knowledge with us at all times and helping us whenever it was needed. Thank you Wellex, Lindiwe and Thandi for making sure we are comfortable at the Askari house and thank you to Katie, Bronwyn and Stuart for making us feel at...

Askari is an amazing place! All the staff have an immense knowledge and are passionate about wilderness conservation. You can’t help but be ignited by it and it makes you feel good that you have contributed in some small way. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and will do anything they can to assist in anything you may need or want to know. Katie, the manager of the Askari Programme is sensational and the cornerstone of creating a family culture that you know you will always belong to. If you have a passion for wilderness and a thirst for knowledge, I can’t recommend this place enough. I can’t wait to come back!...

Askari Wilderness Conservation Programme is run by an energetic, passionate team of people on Pidwa Reserve, a 17500 hectare reserve diverse in animals, birds and flora. I was a second time volunteer and loved my month-long stay just as much as the first time. The accommodation is comfortable, the food is tasty and filling, our duties as a team were easy, our work on the reserve was safe, manual, rewarding and our guide worked along us. We looked forward to the exercise after spending hours spotting the antelopes, lions and eagles in the game viewer. What we learnt from our guides was incredible; tracking animals, plants, snakes, spiders, safety bushcraft etc… And we had fun! With our team, with the...

My third time at Askari and the project goes a little deeper into my heart again. I love this place, I love the ethos, the authenticity, the genuine conservationists and I love how I feel when I’m here. Every part of the project, from the boots on the ground labour activities to the plethora of wildlife focussed day trips and on site game drives, fulfils my need to be out in the bush contributing to conservation. Stu and Bron have stepped into Katies’ shoes while she’s been on maternity leave and have done her proud. I leave a piece of my heart here once again as I fly home....

Don’t hesitate for a second to come here! It’s a crazy experience at every level. First, you stay in such a gorgeous place and have amazing sightings. Then, you be with dedicated and amazing guides, they will be your family. Finally, the human adventure, this is the most amazing one! You will live the best moments of your life with unbelievable encounters! In one word, just go! It is the most amazing experience of a life! Thank you very much for what you made me live!...
